Four-year UG and One-year PG programs to begin at Central Sanskrit University from 2025-26
Central Sanskrit University will introduce a four-year Shastri (UG) and a one-year Acharya (PG) programme starting from the academic session 2025-26. Under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, degrees such as Shastri (Graduate), Shastri Shodh (Research), and Acharya (Postgraduate) will be awarded based on semester completion.
The Central Sanskrit University through a press statement said that the four-year Shastri program will integrate major and minor subjects, including traditional disciplines such as Vedas, Jyotish, Vyakarana, Sahitya, Darshan, Buddhist Philosophy, Kashmir Shaiva Darshan, Dharmashastra, Advaita Vedanta, Puranic History, and Pali-Prakrit, alongside modern subjects like Political Science, History, English, Hindi, and Computer Science. Additionally, skill development courses will be incorporated into the curriculum.
The recommendations of the NEP curriculum formulation committee have been implemented across the university, model colleges, and all affiliated institutions. As per the new structure:
• Students completing two semesters will receive a certificate.
• Those completing four semesters will be awarded a diploma.
• Successful completion of six semesters will lead to a Shastri (Graduate) degree.
• Those passing eight semesters will earn a Shastri (Research Honors) degree.
• Students completing ten semesters will directly qualify for the Acharya (Postgraduate) degree and will be eligible for research programs.
Each semester’s core subjects will carry 100 marks, comprising a 60-mark written exam and a 40-mark continuous assessment. Along with minor courses, students will study interdisciplinary subjects, skill development, and value-based education.
The skill development component includes languages, yoga, computer science, music, theater, ritual studies, astrology, and vastu shastra. Furthermore, the curriculum mandates internships for all students to enhance employability prospects.
This progressive academic framework aligns with the NEP 2020 vision, ensuring holistic education and better career opportunities for students.
