Ganja smuggling through India Post, large quantities ganja seized during checking at airport
Amidst usages of new methods and technologies for smuggling of dry cannabis (Ganja), the Agartala airport police on Monday seized two parcels of India Post from the cargo section of the airport filled with 41 kilograms of Ganja.
Police sources said that on Monday afternoon, the cargo section of Agartala airport informed the Airport police station and authorities of Agartala head post office over suspected two parcels.
Two parcels were booked by the Agartala head post office to deliver the cargo towards New Delhi through Indigo flight. When, the scanning section of the cargo found some suspected materials inside two parcels, they duly informed the matter to both police and India Post authorities.
Then, a team of police from Airport police station rushed to the spot and after waiting for considerable time for India Post authorities, they opened both parcels and found 41 kilograms of dry cannabis, said Women Sub-Inspector Subha Rani Teli.
She also said that they have registered a specific case under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act 1985 and started an investigation to find out the source of such a big consignment of dry cannabis.
