Governor inspects sewage treatment and water purification projects in Agartala and Ushabazar
Tripura Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu on Thursday visited and inspected several key infrastructure projects including the Agartala Sewage Treatment Plant (STP), another STP located in Chandinamura, the Material Recovery Facility (MRF) and a water purification project at Ushabazar.
Governor speaking to the media persons during the visit, described Agartala as an important city and emphasized the need to ensure a clean environment and safe drinking water for its residents. He also stressed the importance of preserving and enhancing the city’s heritage and beauty.
The Governor first arrived at Fire Brigade Chowmuhani, where he was welcomed by Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) Commissioner Saju Waheed and officials briefed him in details about the drainage system connected to the STP. Then, he visited the STP site and the sewage pumping station at Agartala and was informed about the functioning of these projects.
Subsequently, the Governor inspected the Sewage Treatment Plant and the Material Recovery Facility at Chandinamura. Officials explained the processes of waste management, including segregation of plastic, recyclable polythene, and glass bottles.
Later, he visited the 8.0 MLD water purification project at Ushabazar, operated by the Tripura Jal Board. This project supplies water to Wards 1, 2, and 3 of the Agartala Municipal Corporation, benefiting around 3,947 families. The Managing Director of Tripura Jal Board, Mihir Kanti Gope, briefed the Governor on the project.
Expressing satisfaction over the progress and effectiveness of the projects, the Governor emphasized the need to sustain such development initiatives to further enhance urban infrastructure and service delivery in the state.
The Governor was accompanied by Agartala Municipal Commissioner Saju Vaheed A and CEO of Agartala Smart City Limited Dr. G. S. Nayak during the visit.
A felicitation program was also organized by the Jal Board at the plant’s conference hall, where the Governor honored several staff members for their contributions to maintaining cleanliness.
