Govt dissolved three Rogi Kalyan Samitis of IGM, GB, Cancer hospitals
In a sudden and significant decision, the Mission Director of National Health Mission (NHM) under the Health department of Tripura through notification has dissolved all the Rogi Kalyan Samitis (RKS) with immediate effect.
The notification issued by NGM, Tripura on Friday said that in pursuance to cabinet memorandum issued on October 12, 2023 last by the Tripura government, it has notify all the Rogi Kalyan Samitis (RKS) at all levels including IGM, Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) and GB Hospital, Atal Bihari Vajpayee Regional Cancer centre stands dissolved with immediate effect. The notification added that consequent upon this, the Rogi Kalyan Samitis (RKS) need to be re-constituted as per the extant guidelines.
Rogi Kalyan Samiti (Patient Welfare Committee) is a simple yet effective management structure. This committee, which is a registered society, acts as a group of trustees for the hospitals to manage the affairs of the hospital. It consists of members from local Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs), NGOs, local elected representatives and officials from the government sector who are responsible for proper functioning and management of the hospitals. RKS is free to prescribe, generate and use the funds with it as per its best judgement for smooth functioning and maintaining the quality services of the hospitals.
It may be recalled here that MP and Union Minister of state, Smt Pratima Bhowmik is the incumbent chairman of RKS in GB Hospital, former assembly speaker and MLA Ratan Chakraborty lead the RKS of ABV Regional Cancer Centre and former MLA and gynecologist Dr Dilip Das lead the RKS of IGM Hospital.
