History can be preserved in museum: Tourism Minister
History can be preserved in museums and museum play an important role in providing information to future generations about history, said Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury while inaugurating the International Museum Day celebration last evening.
On the occasion, the Tourism minister said that the museum in Ujjayanta Palace in Agartala showcases the achievements of the Kings of the state, Rabindranath Tagore's trip to Tripura. This museum has been designed with the aim that future generations can access information about the traditional culture of the state. He said that the state Tourism department has taken various initiatives to take Tripura forward on the tourism map. Swadesh Darshan-1 and Swadesh Darshan-2 schemes will make the entire state attractive to tourists. Development of the tourism industry is one of the goals of the present government of the state.
Secretary of Tourism Department Uttam Kumar Chakma while giving a speech as special guest said that this day has been celebrated since 1977. The main objective of this day is to preserve our culture properly. An attempt has been made to highlight the traditional art and culture of Tripura through this museum. In his welcome address, Director of Tourism Department Tapan Kumar Das said that this day has been celebrated in the state through various programmes.
The residents of Child Care Institute, Abhoynagar visited the museum. Also, on the occasion of International Museum Day, women were allowed to visit the museum without any ticket. Manager of Union Tourism Ministry Ajay Krishna also spoke on the occasion. Joint Director of Tourism Department Jayanta Debbarma was present on the occasion.
Winners of poster making competition, quiz competition organized on the occasion of Buddha Purnima and Rabindra Jayanti were awarded at the programme. Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury handed over the prizes to the winners. A wonderful cultural programme was performed on the occasion last evening.
