Housewife set on fire by mother-in-law, husband, TCW to take legal action
In a tragic and barbaric incident of domestic violence, a house-wife with seven month old pregnancy has been admitted to GB Hospital with 50% burn injuries, after her mother-in-law tried to kill her by burning.
Sources said that Lipika Das of RK Nagar had married one Sushanta Das of Amarpur one year ago and after a few days of their marriage, her husband and mother-in-law often tortured her by issuing petty domestic issues. But, on the day of Laxmi Puja, her mother-in-law Jamuna Das thrashed her severally and set fire on her by pouring kerosene oil on her body.
After a few minutes of this brutal incident, Lipika’s hasband Sushanta Das arrived at the house and has also thrashed her. But, in the tragic part of this severe domestic violence incident, the injured house-wife has been admitted to GB Hospital after two days of the incident and is now battling for her life at the burn ward of the hospital.
Seeing the media reports of the tragic incident, the newly appointed chairperson of Tripura Commission for Women (TCW) Jharna Debbarma along with other members on Tuesday afternoon visited GB Hospital and met the injured house-wife. She also enquired about her treatment and spoke to the members of her family.
Later, speaking with media persons, Jharna Debbarma condemning the barbaric incident on crime against women said that the atrocities suffered by Lipika from her in-laws are unspeakable and they cannot imagine that a woman can do such a heinous act on her daughter-in-law.
Mrs Debbarma said that TCW will give all kinds of support and help to the victim's house-wife for justice and has also ensured that the law of the land will take its own course to book all persons responsible for the atrocities committed on Lipika Das.
