In a major anti-narcotics operation, the Mohanpur Sub-Divisional Police under West Tripura district, with the assistance of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), destroyed nearly 45,000 Ganja (Cannabis) plants cultivated across approximately six acres of land in the Barkathal area under Sidhai police station in Mohanpur subdivision on Wednesday.

According to police, the illicit cannabis plantation had been spread over 16 separate plots. Acting on intelligence inputs, a joint team carried out a coordinated operation and cut down the entire crop.

The operation was led by Vinod Kumar, Assistant Commandant of the 124 Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), along with SDPO (Mohanpur) Ashish Dasgupta. Personnel from Sidhai police station, Sundartilla Police Outpost, the Tripura State Rifles (TSR), and the CRPF also participated in the drive.

Speaking to reporters, SDPO Ashish Dasgupta said the anti-drug campaign would continue in the coming days as part of the police's sustained crackdown on narcotics cultivation and trafficking. He added that an investigation is underway to identify those involved in the illegal cultivation, and appropriate legal action will be taken against those found responsible.
