Kumarghat Ulta Rath tragedy, compensation disburser to all victim families
As announced by the state government, all the victim families of the tragic incident of electrocution in a chariot of ‘Ulta Rath’ at Kumarghat on June 28 last, the state government Monday handed over Rs. 4 lakh to the next kin of each deceased persons.
Social Welfare and Social Education Minister Tinku Roy accompanied by chairperson of Kumarghat Municipal Council, Biswajit Das, DM of Unakoti district, T K Chakma, SDM (Kumarghat) Subrata Kumar Das on Monday visited all the houses of Rath tragedy victims and handed over the declared amount to their next kin.
Speaking with media persons, Minister Tinku Roy said that as per commitment made by Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha during his visit to Kumarghat on fateful day, the nearest relatives of all seven deceased persons has been given Rs. 3.90lakh to their respective bank accounts. Earlier, the sub divisional administration had handed over them Rs. 10,000 after the incident.
He said that the financial assistance declared by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi will soon be handed over to all victims and injured persons.
It may be recalled here that after the tragic incident of electrocution in a chariot of ‘Ulta Rath’ at Kumarghat on Wednesday afternoon, in which seven devotees killed and 16 more injured, Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha immediately rushed to the spot by a local train from Agartala and reached the incident spot at late evening.
Soon after arrival at Kumarghat railway station, Dr Saha accompanied by Minister Tinku Roy and local MLA Bhagaban Chandra Das along with DM and SP of Unakoti district visited the incident spot and spoke to some eyewitnesses.
He also visited the Kumarghat and Fatikroy hospitals and met all injured persons, who were admitted to the hospital and enquired about their treatment process.
The Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressing his deep grief over the loss of lives in the mishap during the Ulta Rath Yatra at Kumarghat has announced an ex-gratia from Prime Minister's National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the victims.
As per the announcement of Prime MinisterRs. 2 lakh ex-gratia from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased and Rs. 50,000 would be given to those injured in the mishap .
Later, in the same night Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha announced assistance and ex-gratia of Rs. 4 lakh to the next kin of each deceased, Rs. 2.5 lakh to each injured having more than 60% injuries and Rs. 74,000 to each injured having 40 to 60 % injuries with free medical treatment of all injured persons.
