Land dispute in a Kalyanpur village, 8 injured
Disputing land, at least eight persons sustained injuries , when two groups engaged in a fierce fighting at Shantinagar village of Durgapur Gram Panchayat under Kalyanpur area of Khowai district on Monday.
Sources said despite the installation of a tube well, a group of ‘Rajbanshi’ community with lethal weapons including clubs, sticks and chains attacked another group. As a result, eight persons identified as Ratan Tanti (26), Kanu Tanti (55), Sadhan Tanti (45), Benu Tanti (35), Ranta Tanti Das (42), Anup Tanti (2), Bhabani Tanti (18) and Anita Tanti (47) suffered grievous injuries and all of them were shifted Kalyanpur hospital by local villagers.
Among the injured persons, after Kanu Tanti's condition deteriorated, he was shifted to GB Hospital in Agartala.
Police sources said that after the incident was reported, a large number of police forces rushed to the spot and detained three accused persons including Shyamal Tanti, Nirmal Tanti and Litan Tanti. Police added that they did not receive any formal complaint from any of the rival groups and if they registered any specific complaint, then police will take all legal action for pitch battle among the groups and creating disturbance in the locality.
