Large quantities of dry Ganja seized from a luxury car, husband-wife arrested
Within 24-hours of one of the largest ever drug seizures in the state in recent times, the North Tripura district police again on Tuesday seized large quantities of dry Cannabis from a luxury car and arrested a couple of husband-wife.
Giving details of the operation, SP(North Tripura) Bhanupada Chakraborty said that based on secret information, a contingent of police personnel from Churaibari police station led by OC Samaresh Das laid a trap at the Checking point (Naka) of Churabari gate and detained the suspected private car (Maruti Baleno-Tr-04-E-0768).
In the course of the search operation, police recovered a total of 61 packets of dry Ganja , hidden in many secret chambers of the luxury car, weighing 30 kilograms and worth Rs. 4.5 lakh, said Chakraborty.
He said that police have also arrested one Sudip Karmakar of Mohapur area of West Tripura district and his wife Dhimali Debbarma, who were transporting this consignment from Mohanpur to Assam state.
The SP said that police have registered a specific case under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act 1985 and are now interrogating both arrested peddlers and are trying to burst the inter-state nexus of drug smugglers.
It may be recalled here that on Monday, the North Tripura district police led by SP Bhanupada Chakraborty seized 1.3 kilograms of Heroin worth of Rs. 10 crore and seized drugs contained in 100 soap cases were carried in a TATA Sumo vehicle (MN-01-AK-3139), which was coming from Southern Assam. Police have also arrested three drug peddlers.
