Large quantities of Yava, Phensedyl seized from Melaghar
In another successful operation, Tripura police in the wee hours of Wednesday seized huge quantities of Yaba tablets and banned cough syrup Phensedyl from house and godown of a noted drug smuggler from Indiranagar village of Melaghar under Sepahijala district.
Giving details of the police operation, SP(Sepahijala) B J Reddy said that the Melaghar police station has specific information over storage of a big consignment of synthetic at the house of one drug smuggler, identified as Faruq Hussain of Indiranagar village under same police station.
Based on the information, a team of police personnel led by OC Debasish Saha continuously monitored the movements of that drug smuggler during the past four days. After getting concrete information over the storage place of the suspected drugs, a police team raided the house and one godown of Faruq Hussain in the wee hours of Wednesday. During the raid, police recovered large quantities of Yava tablets (35,200) and 158 bottles of contraband cough syrup Phensedyl. While sensing the raid of police personnel, accused drug smuggler Faruq Hussain managed to escape from the spot.
Reddy said that seized drugs has a worth of Rs. 1 crore and police has also managed to trace the suspected location of the escaped smuggler and hoped that within a short period , they will be able to arrest him.
