Large quantity of Yaba tablets seized in joint operation by BSF and Sonamura Police
In a major anti-smuggling operation, the joint force of 81 Battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF) and Sonamura police station seized 10,000 Yaba tablets from the Indo-Bangladesh border before the consignment of drugs smuggle to Bangladesh.
The recovery was made late at Monday night from the Srimantapur Border Outpost (BOP) area under Sonamura police station of Sepahijala district.
While, giving details of the operation, OC of Sonamura police station , Tapash Das said that the contraband was found packed in 50 blue-colored packets, each containing 200 Yaba tablets, bringing the total to 10,000 tablets after counting.
The seized narcotics were recovered from an area adjacent to the barbed wire fencing along the international border. Police suspect that the tablets were brought to the location under the cover of darkness with the intention of smuggling them across the border into Bangladesh. However, the vigilant surveillance by BSF personnel foiled the smuggling attempt, said Das.
Das also stated that such joint operations by BSF and police will continue in the future to curb illegal activities along the border. He also confirmed that an investigation is underway to identify those involved in the smuggling attempt. The estimated market value of the seized Yaba tablets is around Rs 5 lakh, he added.
