Left Forces staged Raj Bhavan Abhijan with demands for farmers, workers welfare
The state unit of Samyukt Kisan Morcha(SKM) and CITU on Tuesday jointly organized ‘Raj Bhavan Abhijan’ in Agartala in support of their 21 point charter of demands.
The Raj Bhavan march of Samyukt Kisan Morcha(SKM), All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) and CITU activists started in front of Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan and when the rally reached Circuit House area of the city, police stopped the rally and leaders of all the Left organizations addressed the gathering, where hundreds of supporters and leaders of these organizations gathered to press their 21 charter of demands.
Addressing the gathering All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS), Tripura unit president and former minister Pabitra Kar said that after coming to power in 2014 the central government headed by Narendra Modi has been protecting the interests of the corporate houses, indulging in crony capitalism at the cost of farmers’ interests.
He said that the farmers unions and trade unions have started a movement to respond to the Modi government's betrayal of farmers, which will end with the fall of the Modi government.
He alleged that the Modi government has betrayed the written promise it made during the suspension of the historic 384-day farmers' movement for almost three years now. The patience of the farmers has broken. He said that the programme of the Samyukt Kisan Morcha(SKM) and CITU started from last 26th by encircling the Raj Bhavan of various states, and will end on November 28.
“The martyrdom of 754 farmers will not go in vain. Farmer workers, students and youth have decided to return home after removing the undemocratic government of the centre,” Kar said .
Congratulations to the hundreds of farmers and laborers who participated in this campaign even though it is now the time of planting crops, said Kar and that farmers of the country have started the movement of farmers and working people by holding a three-day program in the month of November revolution, it will be organized again from December through farmers' movement in the state, it will not be based only in Delhi. The movement will spread from the villages.
State CITU Secretary and former MP Sankar Prasad Datta addressing the gathering said that the Modi government, which protects corporate interests, has launched a war against the farmers and working classes of the country's people.
Later, in the rally, CPI(M) state secretary Jitendra Chaudhury, former ministers Manik Dey and Aghore Debbarma were also addressed the rally and they claimed that the central government headed by Modi is trying to sell off the profit-making public sector undertakings , putting the thousands of workers at the mercy of avaricious industrialists and big entrepreneurs but the farmers are not getting just prices for their products.
While, among the 21 points, the notable demands are immediate implementation of the written promises made by the central government during the historic farmers' movement, including payment of minimum support price, installation of a martyr's pillar at Singhur border in memory of farmers martyred during the movement, and arrangements for compensation and rehabilitation of the families of the martyrs, all cases must be withdrawal, Punishment of Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra Teni accused of murdering farmers and journalists in Lakhimpur Kheri, Abolition of labor code with all previous demands of the SKM , inclusion of construction workers under ESI, food security regulations and public distribution system, introduction of Forest Rights Act, strict implementation of Forest Rights Act and repeal of Forest Conservation Act 2023, stop privatization of state sector and government offices etc.
After the agitation, a delegation of SKM and CITU leaders submitted their memorandum at the Governor office in support of their demands.
