Light rainfall across parts of Tripura and in the capital city on Friday afternoon brought much-needed respite to residents of Agartala and surrounding areas after a prolonged spell of dry, dusty and uncomfortable weather conditions.

According to the mid-day weather bulletin issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Agartala, very light rainfall was recorded at a few places in the state during the last 24 hours, particularly in Khowai, Gomati and North Tripura districts, while the remaining districts experienced dry weather.

Though the rainfall was minimal, the change in weather conditions brought relief from rising dust levels and dry winds that had been affecting the capital city for several days. The maximum temperature across the state remained near normal, with the highest temperature recorded at 33 degrees Celsius in Kailashahar, while the lowest minimum temperature of 21.8 degrees Celsius was also recorded there.

The weather office has forecast that light to moderate rain or thundershowers are likely to occur at a few places across Tripura over the next several days. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning may also occur at isolated locations during this period.

The India Meteorological Department has also issued Yellow Warnings for thunderstorms and lightning across the districts of Tripura from March 13 to March 17, advising residents to remain alert and take necessary precautions during adverse weather conditions.

Meteorologists indicated that an upper-air cyclonic circulation over central Assam and adjoining areas is influencing the weather pattern in the region, which may continue to trigger rainfall activity across the state.

The department has also warned that heavy rainfall may occur at isolated places in North, Unakoti and Dhalai districts around March 16. Residents have been advised to remain cautious during thunderstorms and avoid open spaces during lightning events.

With temperatures expected to remain near normal for the next four to five days, the intermittent rainfall is likely to further ease the dry weather conditions and improve air quality across Agartala and other parts of Tripura.

Agartala on Friday recorded   maximum temperature at 31.4 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature recorded at 23.6 degrees Celsius.
