Main accused involved in Kalyanpur gang rape still untraced, two prime investigating officers transferred
Amidst continuous protest by opposition parties issuing gang rape incidents of Kalyanpur and Kumarghat, the state police after passing of seven days still unable to arrest main accused.
Sources said that when the main accuse and Upa-Pradhan of West Dharikapur Gram Panchayat, Bidhan Bihari Datta and another accused Ratna Debnath are in the run, the additional SP of Khowai district Rajdeep Deb and officer-in-charge (OC) of Kalyanpur police station Uddam Debbarma were transferred.
Sources though said that as part per-election transfer, both officers were transferred, but with concrete efforts of both these transferred officer among four gang rape accused, police till today were able two accused.
It may be recalled here on October 25th night, a minor tribal girl, who was returning home after attending cultural programme with her friends from Kash Kalyanpur area of West Dharikapur , was allegedly obstructed by few youths and snatched her mobile phone, they kidnapped her and gang-raped her night long.
Kalyanpur police station registered the case under section 376,341,325,354,392, 34 of IPC and section -4 of POCSO Act and started investigation. Police within 24-hours of the incident arrested one prime accused Tapash Debnath . Officer-in-charge (OC) of Kalyanpur police station and SDPO(Teliamura) Prasun Tripura said that an FIR has been registered against four persons including Aditya Das, Tapash Debnath, Ratan Debnath and Bidhan Datta.
Day after the incident on October 26, police had arrested one accused Tapash Debnath and on October 27 had also arrested another accused identified as Aditya Das, who is in five days police custody.
After statewide protest and demonstration after gang rape of minor girl and involvement of ruling party supporters, the police led by SDPO(Kalyanpur) Prasun Kanti Tripura had also organized peace meeting in the Kalyanpur police station in presence of representatives of different political parties.
Police sources said that based on interrogation statements of arrested two miscreants Tapash Debnath and Aditya Das, police have arrested two more persons including a SPO jawan Digendra Debnath and Nibash Debnath for giving shelter to one of the prime accused Ratan Debnath. Both arrested persons were produced before a local court with 3-days police remand appeals and court sent them in jail custody.
Amidst apprehension to divert the investigation process with transfer of two prominent officers associated with the investigation, SDPO Prasun Kanti Tripura said that with transfer these officers , the present investigation of the gang rape case will not be affected and soon police will able to arrest two other accused involved in the incident. He added that they launched a massive manhunt to arrest two other miscreants and raids have been continuing in their possible hideouts.
The incident came days after another teenager was allegedly gang raped in Unakoti district, with the opposition claiming that a state minister's son was involved in the crime.
