Imphal: At least one individual was killed and another three individuals were injured in a fresh gunfight at Khamenlok area, which lies between Kangpokpi and Imphal East districts.

According to sources, the gunfight reportedly began at around 5:30 am, early Saturday morning near Satang Village under Saikul Sub-division in Kangpokpi district. It was said that at one of the hilltops in Khamenlok area, a gunfight erupted between armed Kuki and Meitei volunteers. The gunfight continued for around 3 hours and stopped.

During the gunfight one Kuki volunteer was killed and three Meitei volunteers were injured. As per the sources, the deceased is identified as Tilminlun Khongsai, from Ng Phainom Village located under Saikul Sub-division.

On the other hand, the injured Meitei volunteers were brought to different hospitals in Imphal and are undergoing treatment.

Till the filing of this report, sporadic fighting continued in Khamenlok area with few minutes of silence and sounds of gunfire and bomb explosion ending the silence. Till now no new casualties have been reported.

On June 14 last year, suspected Kuki militants ambushed and killed 9 Meitei Village Volunteers and left 10 others injured at Khamenlok area.
