Massive joint raid by NCB and BSF in Madhupur: Rs 33.62 lakh cash and 51 kg Ganja seized
In a major breakthrough, a joint operation by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) and the Border Security Force (BSF) led to the recovery of huge cash and contraband after a prolonged 9-hour raid in the Madhupur police station area under Sepahijala district on Saturday.
Acting on specific intelligence, around 235 jawans conducted a raid starting from 4 PM on Friday until 1 AM of midnight at the residence of Chinta Haran Namo in the 30 Card area under Madhupur police station. The team broke open the doors and searched the premises thoroughly.
During the operation, officials recovered cash amount of Rs 33, 62,500 after breaking open an Almirah inside a concealed underground section of the house. In addition, 51 kg and 125 grams of dried Ganja (Cannabis) were seized from another room.
Sources said that as soon as the forces entered the house, all family members fled, leaving behind only one daughter-in-law and a child. Initially, a woman locked herself inside and refused to hand over the keys. However, after sustained pressure, she eventually opened the door and handed over the keys, allowing the jawans to conduct a detailed search of the house, including Almirahs, suitcases, and storage areas.
The woman and the child were taken into custody around 1 AM and later handed over to Madhupur police station.
Senior officials from both NCB and BSF were present during the raid. On Saturday morning, they reached the Madhupur police station, where the seized cash was counted and documented.
Meanwhile, the main accused, Chinta Haran Namo, later surrendered before NCB and BSF officials. Sources revealed that the actual owner of the seized Ganja is his elder son, Prasenjit Namo, against whom a case has been registered by NCB. The case has subsequently been handed over to Madhupur police station for further investigation.
The incident has created a sensation across the area, with locals shocked at the huge amount of cash recovered. Discussions are rife about the scale of the alleged illegal drug corridor.
Sources also claimed that more than 1 kg of gold was initially recovered from the house but was later returned after valid documents were produced.
Authorities have now launched a wider investigation to identify associates linked to Prasenjit Namo and bring them under the ambit of the law.
