Minor kidnapping and cybercrime case: Churaibari police arrested accused from Assam, rescued victim
In a major breakthrough aided by advanced technology, police have successfully arrested an accused in connection with a minor kidnapping and cybercrime case and also rescued the victim safely.
Police sources said that acting on a confidential tip-off late Sunday night, a special team of officers launched a targeted operation in the Gobira area under Ratabari police station in Assam. Using Location-Based Services (LBS) technology to track the accused’s mobile number, police swiftly identified his whereabouts and carried out the raid.
During the operation, police arrested Ashu Debnath (26), son of Avantinath, a resident of Gambharia under Ratabari police station in Sribhumi district of Assam. He was wanted in connection with a case registered at Churaibari police station.
The accused faces multiple serious charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Sections 137(2), 75(1)(iv), 79, 78(1)(ii), 351(1), along with Section 65(1). Additionally, Section 4(2) of the POCSO Act has been invoked, highlighting the grave nature of the offense.
Police also confirmed that the victim was safely rescued during the operation. Necessary measures are currently being taken to ensure the victim’s physical and psychological well-being.
The successful raid has brought relief to the local community. Police officials stated that they will continue to take strict action against such crimes and will increasingly rely on advanced technology to conduct similar operations in the future.
Further investigation into the case is ongoing, and the accused will be produced before the court on Tuesday for further legal proceedings.
