Amidst huge crowds over the ongoing immersion of Goddess Durga, in a bizarre and daring incident, one mobile shop owner of Agartala’s Melarmath area was stabbed by an insane youth in front of a crowd and critically injured the shop owner.
The videos of an incident of stabbing multiple times to a mobile shop owner inside his shop at crowded Melarmath areas creates massive reaction across the state.
During the stabbing incident, two TSR personnel rushed to the spot and they somehow rescued the injured man from a pool of blood, identified as Hari Shankar Saha (64) and shifted him to IGM Hospital. By the time, onlookers and some local youths had also manhandled the assailant, identified as Rahul Roy (35).
The incident triggered massive panic among the revelers, who were standing on both sides of Hari Ganga Basak (HGB) Road, waiting for the glimpses of immersion of Goddess and within minutes, devotees amidst hue and cry left the spot.
After the incident, senior police officials led by SP(West) Kiran Kumar rushed to the spot and they also shifted the seriously injured assailant to IGM Hospital.
While speaking with media persons, SPO, Kiran Kumar said that as per preliminary investigations, police found that assailant Rahul Roy was a mentally ill person and had some financial transaction with the mobile shop owner, Hari Shankar Saha. On Tuesday evening, assailant entered the shop with a sharp weapon and after a heated altercation; he started stabbing the sexagenarian man.
Ironically, some onlookers and nearby mobile shop owners and their workers witnessed the stabbing incident, but they were busy with taking videos from their mobile phones. But, none of them came at the spot to save the sexagenarian man from the attack of the insane youth.
The SP also said that the condition of both victim man and assailant were very critical and they have multiple deep injuries.
He said that the West Agartala police station has registered a specific FIR over the incident and started investigation to unearth the dreaded stabbing incident. Kiran Kumar said that people, who were responsible for manhandling the accused youth will also not be spared and police will take all legal action against them.
