Monsoon arrived, intermittent rain predicted
After seven days of delay, finally the Southwest Monsoon has advanced into entire parts of Tripura on June 10th along with other Northeastern states like Mizoram and Manipur on the same day, which entered Kerala on June 4th last. The South-West Monsoon, which was scheduled to arrive in the state on June 4th last, but delayed due to cyclonic waves and on Saturday has advanced into most parts of Tripura along with other parts of the Northeast region.
The Meteorological Department (IMD) said that soon after the arrival of Monsoon in Tripura, the incessant rain across the state caused by ‘Monsoon’ affected normal life since early morning of Saturday and the rain has also struck several areas across Agartala in the morning till night. The intermittent rains with thunder showers across Tripura with heavy to very heavy rainfall at few places also brought some respite from scorching heat.
Sources in the Meteorological Department (IMD) said, conditions are becoming favorable for the advance of Southwest Monsoon into some other parts of Northeastern states.
The main rainy season of India and with the onset of Monsoon over Kerala, gradually moves towards other parts of the country, but since June 4th, it does not have any movement towards Tripura, said IMD and finally, after 7 days of delay, the Monsoon hit the state.
IMD said that rainfall will continue in most places across Tripura for the next few days with the possibility of heavy rainfall at one or two places in the coming days. IMD has added that rainfall occurred at most places in Tripura with heavy rainfall at isolated places during the last 24 hours.
The Monsoon rains since the past 24 hours have further cooled the air in the state capital with maximum temperatures rising to 29.6 degrees Celsius and minimum temperature recorded at 25.3 degrees Celsius on Sunday. Though the humidity level is at maximum 98 % and minimum at 77 % recorded at the state capital.
IMD in its weather prediction for next day said a generally cloudy sky with heavy rain would occur in different parts of Tripura and maximum temperatures rising to 33.0 degrees Celsius and minimum temperature would be at 25.0 degrees Celsius. IMD also added that heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at isolated places over South district and thunderstorms with lightning is very likely to occur at isolated places over South, Sepahijala and Gomati districts of Tripura in next 24-hours.
