With pro-media approach, the state government is working for overall development of the state and without cooperation of media; the developmental activities of both central and state government cannot reach to the people living at the remotest corner of the state, said Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy.

Speaking at the celebration of National Press Day held at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan in Agartala on Thursday Singha Roy said that the media persons should take more responsibilities to spread the welfare activities of the government for the overall interest of common people.

Highlighting the developmental activities taken by the state government for welfare of media community including hike in pension for journalists, health insurance, workshops for media persons, new advertisement policy, infrastructure development of Agartala press club and increases of accreditation cards etc, the Finance Minister said that the media through their reports should highlight lapses of the government for implementation of people’s welfare schemes and avoiding media, the democracy of be country cannot be protected.

Speaking at the celebration, Justice Arindam Lodh of the High Court of Tripura highlighted the significance of the formation of the Press Council of India.

Secretary of Information and Cultural Affairs (ICA) department Dr PK Chakraborty, director of ICA, Bimbishwar Bhattacharjee, president of Agartala press club Jayanta Bhattacharjee and secretary, Ramakanta Dey also delivered their speeches mentioning the importance of National Press Day.

In the second phase of the celebration, a panel discussion on the theme of 'Media in an ear of artificial intelligence’ and ‘shaping a future of rights: Freedom of expression as a driver for all other human rights’. During the panel discussion, Justice Arindam Lodh, Editor of North East Colors, Sanjib Deb, executive editor of Tripura Times, Manas Paul and advocate general Siddhartha Sankar Dey participated in the discussion.
