NSU celebrates 6th foundation day
Imphal: The National Sports University (NSU) in Imphal on Tuesday celebrated its 6th Foundation Day and felicitated Olympians and Arjuna Awardees recognizing their outstanding contributions in the field of sports for the nation. The celebration organised by NSU was held at Khuman Lampak Sports complex in Imphal.
Sujata Chaturvedi, the Secretary of Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Akash Jha the Chairman of Commonwealth Youth for Sports Development and Peace, Sports Promoter S. Lokeshwor, Arjuna and Padmashree Awardee Weightlifter N Kunjarani Devi, Arjuna Awardee O. Bembem the Ex- Indian Football Captain, Arjuna Awardee Judoka L. Sushila Devi, Olympian Ksh Thoiba Singh and Olympian Chinglesana took part in the celebration.
During the celebration, the university announced the initiation of academic as well as sports scholarships for deserving students at NSU from this year. Olympians and Arjuna Awardees were also honoured for their outstanding contributions in the field of sports for the state and for the nation. Eligible students excelling in academics and sports from the university were also felicitated.
The Officiating Vice-Chancellor of the sports university Prof Usha S. Nair while unveiling the 1st edition of the University newsletter “ABHYAS”, presented the annual report, acknowledging the Ministry for its unwavering support towards the university’s growth.
MYAS Secretary Sujata Chaturvedi expressed her admiration for NSU’s six glorious years of establishment and praised the Vice Chancellor and the staff of NSU for their commendable job. While highlighting the contributions of sportspersons from Manipur to the Olympics and other international sporting platforms, she expressed her best wishes for the staff and students of NSU for continued growth.
Sports Promoter S. Lokeshwor while sharing insights into the historical background and significance of establishing NSU in Manipur, emphasizing the region’s environmental conditions in supporting the university’s inmates, he credited the global athletes of Manipur for drawing attention to the need for NSU in the state.
Akash Jha also extended his greetings to NSU and praised the commendable work done by the university in promoting athletes and sports courses, including support for para-athletes.
As part of the celebration, a cultural program and a memorable photo session was held highlighting the spirit and achievements of NSU over the past six years.
