One arms smuggler arrested with two 7.65 mm pistols from Jirania railway station
An arms smuggler was arrested from Jirania railway station on Monday night and Railway Protection Force (RPF) has recovered two sophisticated 7.65 mm pistols with 4 magazines under his possessions.
Giving details, the station in-charge of RPF said that one person identified as Dipankar Sen of Devipur, Kamalasagar under Sepahijala district coming down at Jirania station from Kanchanjunga express.
RPF officials said that based on specific information, a team of RPF detained him at the station complex and in the course of search operation, they recovered two sophisticated 7.65 mm pistols and four empty magazines under his possession.
The Railway police added that suspected arms smuggler Dipankar Sen brought these firearms from Dimapur, Nagaland from an illegal arms seller Bisava Deb of Hojai district of Assam with Rs. 30,000 per pistol and these arms consignment suppose to deliver to another arms smuggler, identified as Nandu Paul of Ichabazar area of Pratapgarh, Agartala.
He said that detained arms smuggler has been handed over to Government Railway Police (GRP) for further legal action.
Police sources said that they have started an investigation to find out the nexus of inter-state arms smugglers, who often use the railway for transportation of arms to its destination. Police also said that as per the confessional statement of arrested Dipankar Sen, they will deliver these arms to their agents in Bangladesh.
