Opposition leaders, Power minister visits Rath tragedy site, met families
After passing of 48 hours of the tragic incident of electrocution at the chariot of ‘return Rath Yatra’ ISKCON temple, which struck with 33 KV high tension electric wire in the middle of national highway-8 in Kumarghat area of Unakoti district on Wednesday afternoon killing 8 persons including children and injuries to 16 more, the temple authorities till date has not enquired the health status of all injured or did not met any victim family.
On Friday, teams of opposition parties including a team of CPI(M) led by former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and another team of Congress led by PCC president Ashish Kumar Saha visited Kumarghat and met the members of victim families.
They also met the SDM office to ensure all held to all victim and injured families. The leaders of the opposition parties have also demanded for an impartial enquiry.
Later, CPI(M) team led by Manik Sarkar along with former minister Tapan Chakraborty also visited GB Hospital and met the critically injured persons, who were admitted in the critical care unit of the hospital.
Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath soon after returning from Arunachal Pradesh has also visited Kumarghat and met all bereaved families and family members of all injured persons along with local MLA Bhagaban Chandra Das. Nath also announced financial assistance for all dead and injured families from own salary. MLA Bhagaban Chandra Das also declared financial assistance from his five months salary.
Nath also handed over Rs. 1 lakh each to all victim families and Rs. 50,000 each to all injured families on behalf of Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL). MP of East Tripura constituency Rebati Mohan Tripura also visited Kumarghat and met families of victims and injured persons .
Sources said that on Thursday, the Kumarghat police station lodged a suo-motu FIR and on Friday as part of investigation, police had interrogated some authorities of ISKCON temple.
While, officer-in-charge (OC) Kumarghat police station, Shankar Das said that the investigation started recording the statements of all eye witnesses of the incident and are now investigating all aspects of the incident.
