'Outsiders' interfering in party’s organizational affairs in Tripura: Biplab Deb
Former Tripura Chief Minister and incumbent Rajya Sabha MP Biplab Kumar Deb on Sunday said "outsiders" were interfering in the BJP's organizational affairs in Tripura , and he was already aware of the central leadership of what was happening in the state.
Addressing a press conference at his official residence in Agartala on Sunday afternoon, Deb alleged that the interference by "outsiders" was making the party's organization weak.
He said that some people from the outside were interfering in the organization and I have already made the party leadership aware of the happenings in the state. He said that they will run the party under the leadership of Narendra Modi and JP Nadda. The government and organization must work in the right direction, said Deb without giving details over the "outsiders".
“The people are aware of how outsider interference is taking place in the organization. It is making the organization weak. I am not an IAS or IPS officer, but I know how to strengthen the organization. It was my duty to make the party leadership aware of the outsider interference and I did it," said Deb.
Over the reorganization in the BJP in the state, Deb said it must be carried out after taking into confidence the party's senior leaders.
Sources say Biplab's ties with Dr Manik Saha got strained as the latter, shortly after replacing him as CM, issued warnings against hooliganism and political violence while asserting that illegal activities won’t be tolerated
Signaling discontent in the functioning of the ruling BJP, Biplab said he would continue to do any job given to him by the party under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “BJP-led government is in power for a second term (in Tripura). Since the state was freed from communists, I have tried to do my job with maximum effort. I believe in the leadership of PM Modi. I shall continue to do my job in any position assigned to me,” he said.
He also said that BJP is a disciplined unit but from time to time they are witnessing people interfering from outside. We have to run the party ourselves under the leadership of Modi and Shah. The party and government will run in the right direction. I have full faith in PM Modi. I got the chance to work with his blessings. I shall work in whatever capacity he asks me to work”, said Deb.
While, when asked what he meant by “external influence”, Deb declined to give details but said, everyone understands who is externally influencing and why.
Biplab Kumar Deb, who spearheaded the BJP’s campaign in the 2018 Assembly polls, which ended the CPI(M)-led Left’s 25-year rule in the state, was unceremoniously replaced as the CM with Dr Manik Saha, his once-close aide and Rajya Sabha MP.
Since then, Biplab’s presence in major political events in the state has been erratic. He was last seen holding a few health camps as part of his MP area development mandate.
He also said that the party is not of any one particular person. Most of the state leaders have worked with him and 80 % of them joined during 2018 assembly elections.
Later, in the evening speaking to media persons, state BJP president Rajib Bhattacharjee said he would speak with Biplab Deb to know about his grievances. “Biplab Deb is our leader. He is now the prabhari of Haryana which is a big state. He is also our ex-CM. We shall discuss whatever he said. I shall speak with him to know about his grievances. “We want Biplab da, Manik da (CM Manik Saha) is also our leader and we want to work together with all leaders,” said Bhattacharjee.
Bhattacharjee also said he has seen Biplab’s press briefing and would speak with him soon, adding if there are any shortcomings they would be rectified.
Meanwhile, Deb went to Delhi on Sunday evening, and is unlikely to attend the party's state executive meeting on Monday.
Recently, the state BJP has removed some Mandal presidents, and presidents of several booth committees for their poor performance in the last assembly elections. The exercise came after the BJP lost 11 percentage points in vote share in this election as compared to the 2018 polls, even as it retained power.
