Padma Shri awardee Rosem maestro Thanga Darlong passes away
Tripura’s legendary musician, folk artist, singer, Padma Shri recipient, and illustrious Rosem player Thanga Darlong passes away due to his old age ailments.
He breathed his last at his home at Kailashahar on Sunday afternoon. On hearing the news of his sudden demise, many people including Youth and Sports Affairs Minister Minister Tinku Roy, and ex-MLA Mabaswar Ali went to his house and paid their tributes to the departed soul and also expressed their deep condolences to the bereaved family.
Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha in his condolence message said that he was deeply mourned and saddened by the sudden demise of the eminent Rasam player and glorious cultural personality of the state. The melody resonated with the magical and creative aesthetic power of his artistry and will always remain immortal in the hearts of the country and in the state. His death created an irreparable void in the cultural world of the state.
He said,” The demise of famous Rosem player and Padma Shri awardee and folk music artist Thanga Darling deeply saddens me. I express my condolences to all the members of the bereaved families including well-wishes. May God give them strength to bear this sorrow of separation and may his departed soul rest in peace.” Thanga Darlong was an eminent cultural figure dedicated to developing the traditional culture of the state's tribals. He was conferred the Padma Shri Award for his outstanding contribution to music in sustaining the rich cultural heritage of the state. His death has cast a shadow of mourning across the state.
