Phensedyl worth of Rs. 4 cr seized from Churaibari check post
In a major drug seizure in recent time, the neighbouring Assam police has recovered banned cough syrup Phensedyl worth of about Rs. 4 crore from the Assam portion of Churaibari check post on way to Tripura from a 12-wheelers lorry.
Sources said that based on secret information, the Karimganj police (Assam) posted at Churaibari watch tower adjacent to Tripura border detained a suspected lorry loaded with 600 bags of rice before its entry into territory of Tripura.
Police sources said that the Assam police has also arrested truck (MP-07-HB-7850) driver Rakmat Ali (27) and assistant Ashquik Ali of Meerut Uttar Pradesh, who were coming from Kolkata towards Agartala carrying 600 bags of rice. Under the loads of rice, smugglers had also hidden 350 cartons containing 35,300 bottles of Phensedyl , worth Rs. 4 crore approximately.
Police sources added that, Assam police by registering a specific case under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 (NDPS Act) has started investigation to unearth inter-state drug smugglers' nexus.
