Police and media fraternity urges people to restrain from post-poll violence

The Sadar sub divisional police of the state on Wednesday organized an all-party meeting with the representatives of all political parties here at West Agartala women police station to maintain law and order situation on the day of counting and afterwards.

Giving details SDPO(Sadar) Ajoy Kumar Das said that along with other subdivisions of the state, the police of the Sadar has also convened an all-party meeting with the leaders of different political parties and their leaders to seek their cooperation for maintain law and order situation inside the counting halls and across the city after announcement of poll results on March 2nd.

He said that detailed discussions over the rule of political parties and their direct participation to maintain law and order situation inside and outside of the counting halls.

Das said all party representatives were aware about three tier security systems and steps which would be taken, if the miscreant activities were noticed inside and outside the counting halls on March 2nd.

He said that as per the motto of ‘zero violence’ of the Election Commission of India (ECI), the police and other security forces will take strict action against all miscreant activities if there will be any attempt to violate the rules and regulations. Das said that during the meeting, leaders of different parties have registered their complaints and given their suggestions to police, which will be placed before the concerned Election officials.

However, on Wednesday evening during a press conference some senior editors and senior journalists of the state appealed to the people of the state to maintain peace and harmony and should not indulge in any kind of political violence before and after the polls results.

They also appreciated the rule of ECI for conducting Tripura assembly elections peacefully and free and fair manner and have also urged the Commission to take all possible steps to maintain peace and harmony in the state. During the press meet, some other intellectuals including retired High Court judges, former government officials, educationists etc.
