Police bring post-ADC poll violence under control; several arrested, says DGP
In the aftermath of the ADC vote counting, incidents of violence were reported from various locations of the state and till now, hundreds of people had to take shelter in safer places, while, the police administration has brought the situation under control and claimed that situation across Tripura on Sunday is quite peaceful and normal.
Director General of Police (DGP) of the state, Anurag Dhankar on Sunday during his routine visit to West Agartala police station to review the functioning of the police station, DGP speaking with media said that several individuals involved in political violence have been arrested and legal action is being taken against them.
The DGP also responded to queries from journalists, mentioning that incidents of violence had occurred after ADC election result declaration on April 17 and police forces across the state with huge deployment control the situation. He said that a large number of security forces were deployed in all vulnerable places and all senior police officials are patrolling round the clock.
DGP said that till yesterday, there were no reports of violence and after some post-poll violence incidents, state police had taken measures to identify miscreants and some of them were already arrested.
“Soon, police will file the charge-sheet against arrested persons and put them before the court of law to ensure stringent punishments as per the law of the country,” said DGP.
While, over road blockade at Khowai-Agartala route by some agitators of Tipra-Motha party, DGP said that police teams were instructed to take suitable steps to control the situation and withdraw such kind of road blockade, which are creating tremendous hindrance for commuters.
He assured the people of the state adequate security forces were deployed across the state and there are no situations for panic, but appealed to the people to maintain peace and tranquility.
