Police constable arrested for recording witness in a court intoxicated condition
A Tripura police constable was arrested on Saturday after he allegedly misbehaved with a judge of local court in Bishalgarh during his submission as a witness in a murder case.
Sources said that accused police constable Ruphanghu Dangu, posted at the SP office of Sepahijala district has been summoned by the District and Session court of Sepahijala district on Saturday to record his statement as a witness of the murder of one Babul Miah, who was killed in Ganiamara area under Bishalgarh police station in 2017.
When on Saturday morning the accused constable stood in the witness box of the District and Session Court, the judge Debasish Kar noticed that witness speaking with the judge in intoxicated condition.
Then, Judge Debasish Kar immediately ordered the station police personnel to take his custody and arrested him after formal proceedings.
Later, the accused constable was rushed to a local hospital for his medical test and as per the complaint lodged by the district court; police has also arrested him and put him behind the bars at Bishalgarh police station.
While speaking with media persons, accused constable Ruphanghu Dangu refused the allegation made by the court and claimed that he was not in a drunken position, but he appeared before court and tried to record his witness by chewing a tobacco.
Sources added that based on the complaint of the court, police started investigation and will initiate a departmental enquiry against the accused constable.
