Police destroyed huge quantities of seized drugs
As part of nationwide destruction of seized drugs and contraband items, the Tripura State Level Drug Disposal Committee headed by DIGP (Southern Range) destroyed huge quantities of drugs and other contraband items, worth of cores, during the past two days.
Giving details, police said that on the first day of drug disposal, the state police had destroyed drugs worth Rs. 2.33 crore including 3990 kilograms, cannabis ( Ganja), 9416 bottles of contraband cough syrup and 33,525 Yaba tablets.
On the second day of disposal on Saturday, the DDC destroyed more items of seized drugs including huge quantities of cannabis, banned cough syrup Phensedyl, different kinds of tablets and Heroin.
Police added that the officials of Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) Amit Shah from Guwahati through video conferencing monitored the entire drug disposal process along with other states of the country during the past two days.
The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has monitored the disposal process along with state’s agencies, which have confiscated different anti-drug operations by state police and other security forces.
Among all Northeast states, the highest quantity of 12,000 kg of drugs was destroyed in Tripura while 4,000 kg of narcotics was burnt in Arunachal Pradesh, 1,600 kg in Meghalaya, 1,900 kg in Manipur 1,900 kg, 1,500 kg in Mizoram and 398 kg in Nagaland and including Assam, a total of 40,000 kg of seized drugs were destroyed during past two days.
Official sources said that the Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who is currently on a three-day visit to Assam, will hold a meeting on narcotics control with the chief ministers, chief secretaries and directors general of police of the Northeastern states.
