Police seized contraband cough syrup worth of Rs. 4 crore, two UP men arrested
In a successful operation, Tripura police have seized Phensedyl worth of Rs. 4 crore and arrested two persons of Uttar Pradesh on Sunday from Bishalgarh subdivision.
Police sources said that based on secret information, on Saturday midnight police personnel of Madhupur police station detained a 12-wheeler lorry bearing registration number UP 70 CT 4611 from East Senapati Para village , just before the entry of the government run an animal shelter house at Devipur. The truck was loaded with animal fodder for the cattle farm.
On Sunday morning, police brought the seized truck to Bishalgarh police and in presence of Executive Magistrate Prasenjit Das, they started searching the vehicle.
During the search in the vehicle, police recovered a total of 300 cartons loaded with Phensedyl and Escough cough syrups, worth of Rs. 4 crore.
Police added that they have specific information, a truck loaded with animal fodder for Devipur farm is coming from Uttar Pradesh and when the truck entered the Madhupur area, police detained the suspected truck and brought it to Bishalgarh police station.
Police also said that this the largest seizure of any contraband items , especially banned cough syrup and they have also arrested two persons identified as Ankush Sukla (driver) and Rajan Singh's assistant of the truck and both are residents of Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh.
