Poll debacle review: Opposition CPI (M) blames Tipra-Motha
Opposition CPI (M) after a daylong state committee meeting to analyze the assembly polls results claimed that due to the dubious role of Tipra-Motha leaders, BJP once again came to the power despite continuous anti-democratic activities by BJP during the last five years.
Addressing a press conference here at CPI (M) headquarters on Thursday evening, CPI(M) state secretary and MLA Jitendra Chaudhury accompanied by veteran party leader and convener of Left Front Narayan Kar said that the state committee of the party during their one day meeting on Wednesday had detailed discussion over the performance of the party in the recently held assembly elections and reasons for their poll debacle.
Chowdhury said that Tripura had witnessed five years long black days during the BJP-IPFT regime and the democracy has been throttled every day and all rights of common people were snatched away.
From 2018 to 2023, every elections held in the state during first BJP government were made into farce and political and democratic rights of common people were snatched away, said Chaudhury and added that due to anti-people policies of BJP government, a wave and aspiration of people started flowing across the state that now time has come and people will oust anti-people government through democratic rights.
After announcement of elections schedules by the Election Commission of India (ECI) and implementation of model code of conducts (MCC), the aspiration of people made into wave against BJP, said Chaudhury and added that among the total eligible voters of the state, a total of 89.6% voters cast their votes freely.
“Before the elections, the Left Front had urged all anti-BJP and democratic forces to form an alliance to stop the division of anti-BJP votes and LF had made seat adjustment with Congress, but till last day had tried to make an alliance with Tipra-Motha to stop division of votes,” said Chaudhury.
From the first day of election campaign, Motha leaders addressed rallies and meetings against BJP till the final day of campaigning, but they had played a dubious role and indirectly extended their help towards the BJP, claimed Chaudhury.
He said that without any rhyme or reason, the Motha leaders had fielded 22 candidates in non-reserved seats, where they have no chance to win any of the seats, just days before the last day of nominations. “We did not understand the reason for filing nominations in 22 un-reserved seats by Motha leaders, but after announcement of poll results, it is now crystal clear and everybody understands the game plan,” said Chaudhury.
Among total casting votes, BJP-IPFT alliance got 10,17,635 votes, which is nearly 40%, CPI(M) and Congress got 9,11, 235 votes, which in percentage is 36.03% and Tipra-Motha got 4,87,470 votes and in percentage it is 19.9% of vote share, said Chaudhury and added that after results, BJP got 32 seats, their alliance partner IPFT got one seat, CPI(M)-Congress got 14 seats and regional Tipra-Motha get 13 seats.
“It is clear though BJP numbers to form government, but in terms of vote share, their vote percentage decreased at 11% from the votes shares got in the 2018 assembly elections, which clearly indicated that largest share of voters of the state wanted to oust the BJP government from power, but game played by Motha leaders spoiled the aspiration and a chance to restore the democracy in the state,” said Chowdhury.
The entire 2023 assembly elections was against BJP, but Motha leaders openly addresses people against BJP and internally supported them by choking wave , which was against BJP, said Chaudhury and added that in reality BJP never came to power without this game plan of division of anti-BJP votes by contesting in non-reserve seats.
Before elections Motha leaders said division of anti-BJP votes must be stopped, but took a role to give them extra mileage and destroyed the real verdict of the state’s people, said Chaudhury.
Castigating the violent politics of the ruling party, Chaudhury said that they will continue their fight against anti-people policies of the BJP government and will start their mass movements against post-poll violence sponsored by BJP.
