Power cut for 3-days, aggrieved villagers ransacked electric office
After suffering three long days in darkness, the aggrieved villagers on Wednesday ransacked the electricity office located in Baikhura.
Sources said that the local people of East Churakbai village of Baikhura under South Tripura district are forced to live in total darkness due to the reluctant attitude of Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) after a transformer collapsed three days ago. The villagers repeatedly appealed to authorities of Baikhura electric office, located near Girls school, but none of the authorities responded to their plea and the entire village plunged into darkness.
The angry villagers waited till Wednesday afternoon for necessary maintenance or replacement of the damaged transformer, but TSECL did not heed their demands. Finally, villagers in groups attacked the electric office and ransacked all accessories of the office. After the incident was reported, police rushed to the spot and villagers escaped from the spot. While, Power department authorities said that a new transformer has been brought from Udaipur and replacement work is going on.
