Public talk on constitutional ethos at NLU: “Constitution is new crown and fundamental rights are Kohinoor”
The Tripura Dialogue Forum (TDF), operating under the auspices of the National Law University, Tripura, hosted its inaugural public talk on ‘Constitutional Ethos,’ featuring the esteemed Mr. Siddharta Shankar Dey, Advocate General of Tripura on saturday.
A press communiqué issued by the varsity said that Mr. Dey embarked on a fascinating exploration of Constitutional Ethos, drawing from ancient Indian epics such as the Ramayana, Mahabharata, and Bhagavad Gita. His erudite references extended to venerable scriptures like the Shatyayaniya Upanishad, establishing a parallel relation between the Constitution of India and these age-old legal doctrines.
Noteworthy was Mr. Dey’s invocation of the concept of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’—the world as one family— drawing a poignant connection to Article 14 and 16 of the Constitution of India. This philosophical underpinning accentuates the universal principles of equality and justice enshrined in our constitutional framework.
In conclusion, Mr. Dey’s eloquent reminder to ‘let peace prevail on peace itself’ underscored the timeless wisdom of ancient sages, emphasizing the harmonious coexistence that the constitutional values strive to uphold. The Tripura Dialogue Forum, through this inaugural lecture, has not only added another layer to the tapestry of legal education but has also sown the seeds for thoughtful discourse and transformative ideas in the legal landscape of Tripura. The event ended with an interactive question answer session.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. (Dr.) Yogesh Pratap Singh while delivering the welcome address emphasized that TDF is created with an object to cultivate and disseminate ideas that ignite innovation, embrace possibility, and amplify their societal impact. Registrar, Prof. Nachiketa Mittal, Dr. Debasree Debnath, Assistant Professor of Law and TDF Coordinator were instrumental in organizing this event. Faculty members and students from NLU Tripura, Government Law College and ICFAI Law School participate in the event.
