SC Collegium recommends transfer of Tripura HC Chief Justice AK Singh to Telangana, M.S. Ramachandra Rao to be new of CJ of Tripura HC

The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the transfer of the Chief Justice of the High Court of Tripura, Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh to the Telangana High Court and Jharkhand High Court Chief Justice M.S. Ramachandra Rao was proposed for transfer to Tripura as next Chief Justice.
The decision to transfer Chief Justice Singh was taken by the Supreme Court Collegium in a meeting held on May 26.
Justice Singh enrolled as an advocate in 1990 and practiced at the Patna High Court from 1990 to 2000. After the formation of the Jharkhand High Court, he continued his practice there from 2001 until his elevation to the Bench.
He was appointed as an Additional Judge of the Jharkhand High Court on January 24, 2012 and was made a permanent judge on January 16, 2014. In April 2021, he was appointed as the Executive Chairman of the Jharkhand State Legal Services Authority.
Justice Singh served as the Acting Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court from December 20, 2022, to February 19, 2023. He took oath as the Chief Justice of the Tripura High Court on April 17, 2023.
The Supreme Court Collegium has also recommended the transfers of three more Chief Justices from the High Courts of Madras, Rajasthan and Jharkhand.
The Collegium headed by Chief Justice of India has proposed the transfer of Madras High Court Chief Justice K.R. Shriram to Rajasthan. In return, Rajasthan Chief Justice Manindra Mohan Shrivastava was recommended to head the Madras High Court.
Supreme Court Collegium recommends new Chief Justices for five High Courts
The May 26 resolution of the Collegium published on Wednesday (May 28, 2025) recommended the transfer of Tripura High Court Chief Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh to Telangana. Jharkhand High Court Chief Justice M.S. Ramachandra Rao was proposed for transfer to Tripura.
The Collegium, in a separate resolution, has recommended the transfer of Telangana High Court judge, Justice Tadakamalla Vinod Kumar, to the Madras High Court.
The Collegium has also recommended the transfer and repatriation of 21 other High Court judges across the country.
These proposed transfers span across the High Courts of Telangana, Karnataka, Madras, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Bombay, Delhi, Rajasthan, Calcutta, Allahabad, Punjab and Haryana, Gauhati, Orissa, Madhya Pradesh and Patna.
This is one of the largest proposed shuffles of High Court judges in recent months.
The Collegium had recommended five senior High Court judges for appointment as Chief Justices of the High Courts of Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Gauhati, Patna and Jharkhand.
The Collegium had separately proposed Justice N.V. Anjaria, Chief Justice, High Court of Karnataka; Justice Vijay Bishnoi, Chief Justice, Gauhati High Court; Justice A.S. Chandurkar, judge, Bombay High Court; to the apex court.
All the resolutions were passed by the Collegium in a meeting held on May 26.
