Smuggling through railway wagon water tanks, 4 arrested with 150 kg Ganja
Despite, large-scale anti-drug operations by state police along with central forces deployed in Tripura, the smugglers involved in the transportation of dry cannabis (Ganja)( from different parts of Tripura to other states of the country has adopting one after one tactics for successful delivery of their consignments, but often police and security forces manage to rupture their techniques and seized large quantities of contraband items.
In such a similar incident, the police personnel of Teliamura police station busted a racket of drug smugglers, who were often using the water tanks of different trains to deliver their consignments in other parts of the country.
Giving details officer-in-charge (OC) of Teliamura police station, Subrata Chakraborty said that based on secret information, police on Saturday midnight detained an auto-rickshaw after it was seen moving in the Khamarbari area of Teliamura suspiciously.
Police detained that auto-rickshaw and found two youths were smuggling dry cannabis towards Trishabari railway station, said Chakraborty and added that based on the interrogation statements of two detained youths, police had also detained two more youths from railway station.
Police recovered a total of 150 kilograms of dry Cannabis under their possession and duplicate covers and lock of water tanks of railway wagons.
He said that arrested four smugglers identified as Amit Debbarma, Daniel Debbarma, Shamim Sheikh and Yoddha Debbarma involved in the smuggling of Ganja had often used railway wagon’s water tanks to deliver their consignment to other parts of the country.
He said that all these drug paddlers were arrested under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 (NDPS Act) and police started investigation to unearth the nexus and network of drug smugglers involved with transportation of cannabis through railway.
