Statewide political violence, leaders appeals to people to maintain peace and harmony
With the end of the election to the 13th state assembly on February 16 , which has been followed by statewide political violence , especially in some areas of the state, the political leaders of both ruling and opposition parties appealed to the people to maintain peace and mutual brotherhood.
After large-scale violence and pitch battle among the supporters of ruling BJP and oppositions CPI(M) and Congress in Kumarghat after an attacked in a Congress Bhavan and subsequent blockade of national highway-8 in Kumarghat on Saturday, the SC Welfare Minister and candidate of Pabiyacherra assembly constituency Bhagaban Chnadra Das appealed to the people to maintain peace.
Speaking with media persons after a peace meeting with SDM, Das said that ‘its very unfortunate party supporters are being attacked and hospitalized.’
He said such kind of attacks often create hindrance to common people and as a public representative, the leaders should maintain peace and harmony in their respective locations.
While, after visiting some violence affected areas of Ranirbazar under 10-Majlishpur assembly constituency, opposition leader Manik Sarkar said that after polls one party has to win and one has to accept the defeat, but it is not wise attacking innocent supporters and destroying their properties.
‘The way miscreants had attacked in these houses in Ranirbazar reflect that ruling party fearing their defeat intensifies attacks on innocent people and if they have some respect to the democracy , such incidents will not happened,’ said Sarkar and added that the opposition parties fought the elections with appeals to restoration of democracy and rules of law, but unfortunately, the miscreants owing allegiance with ruling party has increases their violent attacks, which on reflect their cowardness.
In a locality many families live, they may not be supporters of any party and believe in different ideology, but attacks on neighbours is not wise, said Sarkar. He said that he heard the statements made by the Chief Minister, which is not at all the statement of a chief minister. Instead of appealing to people to stop violence, his statements are provocative.
He also appealed to the people to maintain peace and calm and should not fall for provocative instigation to vitiate the peaceful environment of the state.
Tripura Pradesh Congress president Birajit Sinha after the attack at their Kumarghat party office also said that peace loving people of the state are not accepting such kind of violent activities.
Narrating different attacks of their supporters , Sinha said that police gave assurance that they will arrest all miscreants and would take stringent steps to stop violent attacks on the opposition.
Meanwhile, on Saturday evening a delegation of CPI(M) including senior leaders Manik Dey and Narayan Kar submitted a deputation before the CEO and demanded concrete steps to stop violent attacks on their supporters. They highlighting different incidents has also appealed to the CEO to arrest all miscreants involved in the dreaded attacks and arsoning on their supporters.
