TCA elections: Tapan Lodh re-elected as president
The election to the Tripura Cricket Association (TCA) executive body concluded on Thursday and after high voltage fight among factions of ruling party, the president of the outgoing committee and retired Chief Engineer (DWS) Tapan Lodh was re-elected as the President of TCA.
The polling was conducted as per the order of the High Court on Thursday, where a total of 30 votes were cast, with 28 of them deemed valid.
Tapan Lodh won 23 out of 28 votes for the post of President by defeating his nearest candidate for the post of president, the incumbent general secretary of Tripura unit of BJP, Amit Rakshit, who had got only 5 votes.
Joynal Das and Basudeb Chakraborty competed for the role of treasurer, and Tapan Chowdhury and Soumitra Gope sought the position of council member.
The results, declared on the same day as the election, revealed Tapan Lodh's successful re-election as the president of TCA. Celebrations ensued outside the TCA office, where supporters marked the victory by burning fire crackers.
The election commenced at 11 AM . Tapan had come to the TCA from the ‘Shatadal Sangha’. There was virtually no contest either for the post of treasurer as Basudeb Chakraborty from the Blood Mouth club routed the outgoing incumbent of the post Jaynal Das by the 23-5 votes margin. For the lone post of Councillor of the apex council Saumitra Gope of Kamalpur won hands down by inflicting a humiliating defeat on Tapan Chowdhury of Gandacherra.
After the results, newly elected president of TCA, Tapan Lodh emphasized the importance of fostering a development-oriented mindset while safeguarding the interests of the TCA. He pledged to collaborate with all stakeholders for the advancement of cricket in Tripura.
The election results mark a significant moment for the cricketing community in Tripura, setting the stage for collaborative efforts towards the development of the sport in the region.
President Tapan Lodh also highlighted his commitment to expeditiously completing the construction of the international cricket stadium. Additionally, he commended the performance of both the boys and girls’ teams in the Ranji Trophy this year.
