Thieves looted premiere Kailashahar school, question raises over night patrolling
The series of stolen incidents under the cover of darkness continues in Kailashahar. In yet another incident, a burglary took place late on Monday night. This time, instead of a residential house, thieves targeted a government school.
The incident occurred at Goldharpur Rudra Singha Higher Secondary School, under Kailashahar police station of Unakoti district.
Speaking on Tuesday afternoon( April 7), the school in-charge, Raj Mohan Sutradhar, said that when he arrived at the school at around 10:15 AM, as usual, he found the grill lock of the main school building broken.
Upon entering the premises, he discovered that the door to the Headmaster’s room had been forced open. All the Godrej almirahs inside the room were found open, their lockers broken, and the room left completely ransacked.
Similarly, the lock of the office room had also been broken. The almirahs inside were opened and their lockers damaged.
The school also has a canteen on its premises. Thieves reportedly broke into the canteen room as well, forced open its locker, and decamped with the cash kept inside.
After witnessing the condition of the school, Raj Mohan Sutradhar first informed Goldharpur village Pradhan Biru Sinha and later lodged information with Kailashahar Police Station.
On receiving the information, Pradhan Biru Sinha rushed to the school and was left shocked by the scene. He also informed local media representatives about the incident. Later, police personnel from Kailashahar Police Station arrived at the spot and initiated an investigation.
It is worth mentioning that the nearly 150-year-old Goldharpur Rudra Singha Higher Secondary School is one of the most reputed institutions in the Kailashahar subdivision. Every year, students from the school achieve commendable results in Madhyamik and Higher Secondary examinations, maintaining its long-standing reputation.
Pradhan Biru Sinha stated that such a theft had never occurred in this prestigious institution before.
Meanwhile, the school in-charge informed that the admission process for new students is currently underway, and admission fees collected from students are temporarily kept in the school locker before being deposited in the bank after completion of the admission process.
As the admission process is still ongoing, a substantial amount of cash was reportedly stored in the locker. However, the exact amount stolen could not be immediately confirmed and will be disclosed after a proper assessment, he added.
He further said that, prima facie, apart from cash, no important documents appear to have been stolen.
It may be recalled here that the school has been functioning without a night guard and group-D staff for several years.
The theft at Goldharpur Rudra Singha Higher Secondary School has once again raised serious questions over police night patrolling in Kailashahar subdivision.
