THRC to observe International Human Rights day on Dec 10
In order to ensure freedom, equality and justice for all, the Internal Human Rights Day-2023 will be observed by the Tripura Human Rights Commission (THRC) on December 10 at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan in Agartala.
Addressing a press conference at the Commission office in Agartala on Friday evening, chairperson of THRC, Justice (retired) Swapan Chandra Das said that the Governor of Tripura Indrasena reddy Nallu will inaugurate the statewise programme on December 10 with the theme of “Consolidating and Sustaining Human Rights Culture into the Future”.
During the programme, Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) Dipak Majumder, chairperson of Tripura Commission for Women (TCW) Jharna Debbarma, Chief Secretary J K Sinha, DGP Amitabh Ranjan and vice-chancellor of Tripura University Prof Dr Ganga Prasad Prosain and chairperson of THRC.
10 December 2023 marks the 75th anniversary of one of the world's most groundbreaking global pledges: the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). This landmark document enshrines the inalienable rights that everyone is entitled to as a human being - regardless of race, colour, religion, sex, language, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status, said Justice SC Das.
He said that the Commission has registered 390 cases from 2016 to till November 30th, 2023 and among these cases, 270 cases have been registered by people and the Commission has taken up 120 Suo-Moto cases. Justice SC Das said that so far the Commission has also resolved 368 cases.
He added that the state government responded very positively to all the decisions taken by THRC.
During the press meet, the members of THRC, BK Roy, Subir Chandra Saha and secretary of the Commission, Ratan Biswas were also present.
