Three drug peddlers booked for creating panic in city over fake snatching incident
Agartala city police on Thursday arrested three drug peddlers with Brown Sugar and a kingpin, who was responsible for spreading fake snatching news and creating panic among city dwellers.
Giving details SDPO(Sadar) Debaprasad Roy said that on Wednesday afternoon at about 1.30PM, one Safikul Islam of East Jogendranagar area under East Agartala police station raised his alarm at Astable ground area and stopped some people, who were moving that area that two snatcher had assaulted him and robbed away Rs. 6000 from his packet. After this fake incident, some media released the news through their social media channels with a bite of Safikul Islam, which created panic among city dwellers just weeks before the festivities of Durga Puja.
After receiving the information, a police spring into action and as per the statements of Safikul Islam, police managed to detain two youths identified as Arup Tripura and Suklal Hrishidas from Lake Chowmuhani market.
Roy said that all three detained youths are habitual drug addict and they are also working as drug peddlers
During thorough interrogation, Safikul revealed that he had Rs. 15000 in his pockets and he purchased 5 vials of Brown Sugar from Arup Tripura and Suklal Hrishidas and had given them Rs. 500. But, both Arup and Suklal refused to take Rs. 500 and they all engaged in scuffle. Then, Safikul decided to give them a lesson and framed a drama of a snatching incident.
The SDPO added that for creating panic among city dwellers over the fake snatching incident, police have registered a case under sections 160, 182, 341, 325, 382(B), 87 of Tripura Police Act and NDPS Act.
