Tipra-Motha leader Abu Khayer suspended for anti-party activities
Tipra-Motha leader Abu Khayer, who contested last assembly elections from Boxanagar assembly constituency, has been suspended due to his anti-party activities, said Opposition leader Animesh Debbarma.
Animesh Debbarma speaking with media persons on Saturday evening said that after announcement of poll schedules for by-elections in two assembly constituencies including 20-Boxanagar and 23-Dhanpur, Tipra-Motha candidate of Boxanagar seat, who contested the last assembly elections has made some comments and statements before media and social media, which has raised questions over the discipline of the party.
Tipra Citizen Federation (TCF) has also raised questions, how Abu Khayer violating the party’s guidelines and discipline of the party made such comments and condemned his personal statements, said Animesh and added that TCF have also demanded disciplinary action against him.
“Our party president and central leaders after a meeting has decided that statements made by Abu Khayer are solely his personal statements and it’s not related with the stand of Tipra-Motha,” said Animesh.
He also said that the Tipra-Motha has decided to suspend Abu Khayer for six months for violating party’s discipline and he was also instructed not to participate in any form of poll campaigns in the by-elections.
He said that anything Abu Khayer speaks or talks about will not be the statement of Tipra-Motha. Animesh also said that Motha, so far, has not decided to support any candidate and the final decision will be informed through a media briefing on August 22nd next.
Recently, Abu Khayer started campaigning in support of BJP candidate Taffajal Hossain for by-elections and made statements, which are not related with the stand with the Tipra-Motha.
It may be recalled here that By-elections for two assembly constituencies of Tripura including 20-Boxanagar and 23-Dhanpur in Sepahijala district will be held on September 5th next and counting of polled votes will be conducted on September 8th.
The by-elections have been necessitated after senior CPI (M) leader and sitting MLA from Boxanagar assembly constituency, Samsul Haque breathed his last after he suffered a cardiac arrest in the wee hours July 19, 2023 last. In the 2023 assembly elections, Haque secured a total of 19,404 votes and defeated his nearest rival BJP candidate Taffajal Hossain by 4,849 votes. Taffajal Hossain secured 14,555 votes and Tipra-Motha candidate Abu Khayer Miah secured 3010 votes.
