Tributes to slain cop, Manipur government identifies outfit
Imphal (Manipur): The state government of Manipur identifies outfit’s which killed police officer and has identified the outfit who carried out the attack and killed Chingtham Anand Kumar, the SPDO of Moreh, however the identity of the outfit is not being disclosed as investigation and combing operation is being carried out to nab the culprits.
Speaking with media persons Kuldiep Singh, the Security Advisor to the Manipur state government said during the wreath laying ceremony of the slain cop Anand, at the Police Memorial at 1st Battalion Manipur Rifles Complex in Imphal on Wednesday.
“We have also identified the group’s which had indulged in this kind of activity. The investigation is on and we hope that we will be able to arrest them quickly,” Kuldiep Singh said .
He also said that whatever blockade has been created in Moreh has been removed since Tuesday and the Combined Security Forces is carrying out a massive operation to arrest the culprits.
“Police have taken full control of Moreh. Now there is no such a thing that the Manipur Police will not be able to function in Moreh”, Kuldiep said.
A Somber scene was witnessed as the lifeless body of SDPO Anand wrapped in tricolour was brought to the Police Memorial. Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh led the state, ministers, MLAs, high ranking officials in offering wreaths and paying the last respect.
Speaking with the media, Biren Singh said that the late SDPO Anand was a highly decorated police officer who knew his job well. “Operations will continue until and unless the perpetrators who killed the SPDO are arrested”, he added.
The Chief Minister while condemning the killing and terming it as a cowardice said, “his untimely demise is a great loss not only for the state but also for the nation”.
After the wreath laying ceremony, with a procession, the lifeless body of the slain cop was brought to his home at Kwakeithel Laishram Leikai Moirang Purel Makha. The body was kept at the office of the Youth Development Club Cum MINA Library and top Manipur Police officials and personnel and locals offered floral tribute and paid their last respect. Later, the last rites and rituals were performed.
Anand, the Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Moreh was shot dead in an ambush carried out by suspected Kuki militants in the Indo Myanmar Border town in Moreh while overseeing the preparation of a helipad at Eastern Shine School’s Ground in Moreh Ward No. 7 jointly carried out by state force and BSF on 31st October in the morning.
Meanwhile, during the combing operation carried out since Tuesday at Moreh, combined security forces of Special Commando, Manipur Rifles, IRB, Assam Rifles and BSF at Moreh Market Colony have detained 44 individuals in connection with the killing of the police officer. Out of the 44 individuals, 32 were found to be Myanmar nationals who were staying illegally.
The detained individuals were handed over to Moreh Police Station for interrogation to find out whether they are involved in the killing of SDPO Anand or not. Later in the late afternoon, the 32 Myanmar Nationals were brought to Imphal by a special helicopter and were sent to the Foreigner Detention Centre at Sajiwa in Imphal East. Meanwhile, massive search operations are still on to nab the perpetrators of the attack.
