Tripura recorded its lowest crime rate in the last 20 years in 2025, with an overall decline of 8.30 per cent in registered cases, Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag Dhankar announced on Thursday.

Addressing a press conference at the Police Headquarters while presenting the annual report of Tripura Police for 2025, the DGP said total crime cases in the state dropped from 4,033 in 2024 to 3,698 in 2025. He attributed the achievement to holistic policing efforts and massive public awareness campaigns across the state.

The DGP said that apart from the overall decline in crime, the state also witnessed significant improvements in road safety and drug law enforcement. Road traffic accidents (RTAs), fatalities, and deaths showed a marked decrease, while action against narcotics intensified, resulting in an 11 per cent increase in cases registered under the NDPS Act.

Providing details of crime statistics, DGP Anurag said property offences declined by 16 per cent, with 293 cases registered in 2025 compared to 349 cases in 2024. Crimes against women (CAW) decreased by 8.14 per cent, with 665 cases registered in 2025 against 724 cases in the previous year. Dowry harassment cases fell by 19.53 per cent, while rape cases declined by 6.11 per cent, from 180 in 2024 to 169 in 2025.

Highlighting road safety measures, the DGP said Tripura recorded an 8.82 per cent reduction in road accidents, with 527 cases reported in 2025 compared to 578 cases in 2024. Fatal accidents decreased by 14.55 per cent, from 213 to 182 cases, while overall deaths fell by 12.8 per cent, from 226 to 197. He noted that 67 per cent of road accident victims belonged to the 18–45 age group. Strict enforcement of the Motor Vehicles Act, particularly against minor driving, played a key role, he added, noting that Tripura’s road accident fatalities are lower than the national average.

On the anti-drug front, Dhankar said the ‘Nesha Mukt Tripura’ campaign yielded substantial results. NDPS Act cases increased by 11.06 per cent, from 470 to 522 cases. Seizure of ganja rose by 14.41 per cent, from 28,599.971 kg to 32,721.718 kg, while contraband cough syrup seizures surged by 145.73 per cent, from 100,143 to 246,087 bottles. Seizure of Yaba tablets increased by 26.37 per cent, from 1,896,863 to 2,397,115 tablets. Destruction of ganja seedlings and plants also rose sharply by 94.71 per cent, from 1.64 crore to 3.20 crore plants.

Referring to border security, the DGP said infiltration has drastically decreased following unrest in neighbouring Bangladesh. In 2025, 202 cases were registered against immigrant foreign nationals, leading to the arrest of 578 persons, including 393 Bangladeshis, 12 Rohingyas, and 60 other foreign nationals.

Dhankar further said enforcement under the Motor Vehicles Act intensified in 2025, with prosecution cases rising and fine collections increasing by six per cent, from ₹19.1 crore to ₹20.2 crore.

Assuring citizens about security, the DGP said Tripura’s borders are fully protected and joint patrolling with the Border Security Force (BSF) is being carried out continuously to prevent infiltration and cross-border crimes.
