On the second day of his visit to Tripura, Union Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs, Dr L. Murugan began his engagements by leading a spirited Tiranga Yatra in Belonia under South Tripura. The yatra was held to celebrate the valour and sacrifice of India’s Armed Forces following the successful Operation Sindoor, and drew enthusiastic participation from the public.
Following the Yatra, Dr Murugan addressed the media during a press conference in Belonia, where he reaffirmed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision that border villages are the first villages in development. He stressed the government’s focus on infrastructure and socio-economic development in border regions.
Highlighting the district’s performance, the Minister stated that 97.55% of MGNREGA job card holders in South Tripura are receiving work, with 2,083 beneficiaries completing the full 100-day job guarantee. He noted that over 21,889 farmers are receiving Rs 6,000 annually under the PM-KISAN scheme, while 3,842 have benefited from the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, and 2,040 farmers have received Soil Health Cards. He lauded the active participation of women through 7,486 Self Help Groups (SHGs), and the emergence of over 28,000 ‘Lakhpati Didis’ as a symbol of grassroots entrepreneurship. The Minister also spotlighted the district’s potential under the One District One Product (ODOP) initiative, with cashew nut production and value addition being promoted for export under the Atmanirbhar Bharat framework.
Dr Murugan celebrated the academic achievement of Suraj Basu, a student from a government school in South Tripura who became the state topper with 99.2% marks — an inspiring example of educational excellence from the region. He emphasized that the district’s progress is aligned with the Prime Minister’s vision of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Prayas for a Viksit Bharat.
Later, the Minister visited the Sudhir Sarkar Para Anganwadi Centre under the West Jolaibari Gram Panchayat. During the visit, he interacted with children and Anganwadi workers, planted a litchi sapling on the premises, and participated in Sadh-vakshan — a traditional ritualistic meal for an expecting mother. He was joined by Tripura’s Cooperation Minister Shri Shuklacharan Noatia and local elected representatives.
Concluding the day’s engagements, Dr Murugan arrived in Agartala where he called on the Chief Minister of Tripura, Dr. Manik Saha.
