Weekend tourist hub to be inaugurated in front of Ujjayanta Palace on July 30
Weekend Tourist Hub will be inaugurated in front of the main gate of the Ujjayanta Palace on July 30 by the Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha. It has been decided to start this ‘Weekend Tourist Hub’ with the aim to establish Tripura as the centre of excellence and priority area for tourism on the tourism map of the country as well as abroad, said Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury in a press conference held at the Secretariat on Friday.
The Tourism Minister said that the Weekend Tourist Hub will remain open every week on Saturdays and Sundays during summer from 4 PM till 9 PM and during winter from 3 PM till 8 PM. ‘No Vehicle Zone’ has been declared for the area starting from Sherowali Sweets to Rabindra Bhavan and Jackson Gate Traffic Point during the ‘Weekend Tourist Hub’. The Tourism Minister also said that residents of Agartala city will find the Weekend Tourist Hub to be a new spot of fun and entertainment. Quite a few facilities will be provided in order to attract tourists towards the Weekend Tourist Hub such as decorated mobile food stalls, paddle boating for tourist entertainment over Radhasagar lake of Ujjayanta Palace, Photo Counter at State Museum garden area to wear traditional garments and accessories and get photographs clicked, keeping Ujjayanta Palace as well as the State Museum open for 365 days and light and sound show in the evening etc.
Moreover, cultural programmes will be organized on those two days to entertain tourists. For safety of tourists, there will be enough male and female police staffs, observation from watch tower and CCTVs installed and police patrolling in civil dress. With the commencement of the Weekend Tourist Hub, there will be revenue income of the state government as well as a source of income for the jobless. The Tourism Minister informed that the state government is working with planning to make tourism an alternate source of economy of the state. The tourism department has taken up various initiatives with the aim to present Tripura as a world-class tourist destination to the tourists of the country and abroad. The state government has even made former Captain of Indian Cricket team Sourav Ganguly as the brand ambassador of Tripura Tourism to showcase state’s tourism to the world.
