A shocking incident of alleged mob brutality has surfaced from the Golaghati Gram Panchayat area under Sepahijala district in Tripura, surpassing previous incidents in its severity and sparking widespread outrage.

A woman was allegedly subjected to medieval-style torture after being accused of having an extramarital relationship. According to allegations, she was assaulted and severely injured by a group led by a local leader of the Tipra Motha Party (TMP). The victim is currently battling for her life at GB Hospital in Agartala after undergoing a critical surgical procedure.

Sources said that an objectionable photograph allegedly involving the victim and another local youth went viral in the area three days ago. Following the incident, village elders reportedly convened a community meeting and claimed to have settled the matter amicably.

However, despite the alleged settlement, a group of men and women, reportedly led by local Tipra Motha leader Titon Ali, alias Suman, allegedly dragged the woman from her residence and took her to a nearby field. There, she was allegedly beaten mercilessly before being taken to a room where, according to the complaint, she was subjected to brutal sexual torture involving the insertion of a bamboo stick into her private parts.

The woman sustained critical injuries in the attack. Her husband initially rushed her to Bishalgarh Subdivisional Hospital, from where she was referred to GB Hospital due to the seriousness of her condition. Doctors at the state-run hospital reportedly performed a complex surgery, and the victim remains in critical condition.

Although a complaint was lodged at Takharjala police station, no arrests had been made at the time of filing this report. Following public outrage, police led by the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Jampuijala visited the scene and initiated an inquiry.

The incident has triggered tension across the area, with residents questioning the role of the police. Allegations have also surfaced that the prime accused, Titon Ali, was taken to the police station but released after being detained for only about an hour by the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Takharjala police station.

The alleged failure of the police to take stringent action despite the gravity of the accusations has raised serious concerns and prompted demands for an impartial investigation and immediate arrests of those responsible. Police officials have not yet issued an official statement regarding the allegations.
