Protesting the series of gang rape incidents and alleged deteriorated law and order situation of the state, the Pradesh Youth Congress on Saturday staged a demonstration and gheraoed the private residence of Chief Minister.

Youth Congress activists led by its president Rakhu Das laid a siege in front of the private residences of the Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha at Banamalipur area and gheraoed the residences.
YC raised slogans against the Chief Minister and the state government, demanding immediate arrest of minister’s son in connection with the gang-rape incident of Kumarghat on October 19 and his dismissal from the council of ministers.
They tried to break the barricades and after a brief scuffle with a large number of police , all the agitators were arrested and police took them to the AD Nagar police line where they remained confined till evening.
Meanwhile the All India Democratic Women Association (AIDWA) or ‘Gana Tantrik Nari Samity’, a front organization of the CPI (M) also demanded resignation of the state women commission chairperson Barnali Goswami for her total failure to come to the rescue of women subjected to various forms of torture and repression. The AIDWA president and former MP (RS) Jharna Das Baidya said that the state women commission had totally failed to work for women and the entire body should resign.
