The accused, Kirk B. Wrzesien, 56, was arrested on Tuesday night at the family's residence in Smyrna, Cobb County, near Atlanta.
He is being held without bond at the Cobb County Adult Detention Centre, according to local media reports.
Police said officers responded to reports of a shooting shortly before 8 pm local time.
Google executive found with fatal gunshot wounds
When officers reportedly arrived at the residence, they found Sheetal Wrzesien, 57, inside the home suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. She later succumbed to her injuries.
The couple's 23-year-old son, Jason Wrzesien, was found outside the house with a gunshot wound. He was rushed to a nearby hospital by emergency responders.
Authorities have not released an update on his condition.
Police said the shooting appears to be an isolated domestic violence incident and that there is no ongoing threat to the public.
Husband faces murder and firearms charges
According to the Cobb County Police Department, Kirk Wrzesien has been charged with:
- One count of felony murder
- Two counts of aggravated assault
- Two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony
Investigators have not disclosed what triggered the shooting, and no motive has been announced. The investigation remains ongoing.
A distinguished career in technology
Sheetal Wrzesien was a senior engineering leader at Google with more than two decades of experience in the technology sector.
Before joining Google, she led mobile and digital transformation initiatives at HomeDepot.com, helping expand the company's digital home décor and furnishings business.
She also held leadership roles in the weather technology and financial technology industries, building expertise in strategic leadership, organisational transformation, mobile and web technologies, marketing technology and e-commerce.
Georgia Tech alumna and patent holder
Having spent her childhood in England, India and Ghana, Sheetal later moved to the United States to pursue a degree in Computer Science at the Georgia Institute of Technology.
She was a named inventor on two software patents, served on the Advisory Board of the Georgia Tech College of Computing, and was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Georgia Tech Alumni Association.
She lived in Atlanta with her husband and their two children, Jason and Jessica.
Authorities have not indicated whether additional charges will be filed as the investigation continues.
